Steve “Bags” Bagley
A favorite quote from one of Steve "Bags" Bagley’s favorite movies, Gladiator, goes like this: “I was the best because the crowd loved me.” The crowd did love you, Steve, and on August 17th, the crowd lost you. You were infamously late for everything in life, which made the creation of a new time standard known as ‘Bagley Standard Time’ a necessity. But for death, you punked us all and showed up early.
Steve was born to “Kent (Sharilyn) and Zola Bagley” on January 27, 1965. He leaves behind his wife Becky, his former wife Debbie, and his greatest joys: Brittnee (Ben), Garren (Amanda), Kyler, Alli (Zach) and Jake (Megan), He’s also survived by his siblings Lori (Brandon), Karen (Scott), and Brian. Spending time with his grandkids -Talan, Chloe, Molly, Asher, Remi and Hendrix- brought him true joy.
Whether on the sidelines of soccer, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, hockey, or football games, Steve was a fixture—sometimes as the coach, sometimes as the loudest and most animated fan. Whether calling plays, calling strikes, or calling out from the stands, he always brought his full energy to the game. It took him right back to his own football days, when he and his teammates would run plays like ‘Twins Left, Twins Right, Newbury Park and the infamous ‘Crazy Jim Special’.
A die-hard Raiders fanatic, Steve often joked that without the Broncos in their division, the Raiders would have no competition for last place. As a season ticket holder he found joy in sharing his love for the game with others. He often gave away tickets to family and friends, finding happiness in seeing others enjoy the experience as much as he did. His generosity and kind heart left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Steve cherished summers spent with family and friends at Uncle Steve’s in Glenwood, Utah, at ‘The Cabin’ in Clear Creek, Utah and Strawberry Reservoir. He enjoyed grilling up a feast for the crowd, racing through the mountains on anything with a motor, fishing, and of course, the annual rebuilding of the cabin’s back deck. If someone needed help, Steve was the first to lend a hand— or better yet, just directing others with his unmistakable sarcasm. Known for his unique approach to fixing things, it might not have always been the right way, but it was definitely the 'Steve way.'"
Steve had a gift for forming connections wherever he went. Whether at the hardware store, the deli, or even in the line at the DMV, he was always ready to strike up a conversation. This talent for making 'new friends' was second nature to him and was a key reason for the success of Pet Reflections, one of his greatest accomplishments. The countless relationships he built throughout his life not only enriched his personal life but also contributed to the thriving business he was so proud of.
This could go on for pages, so let’s close with the second part of that earlier Gladiator quote, which goes like this: “Win the crowd and you will win your freedom.” Well, Steve, you’ve won the crowd and won the ultimate freedom. You’ve made us all a little better—better friends, better family, better people. We hope you're enjoying all the leg humps from Jazzy McMuffin and the endless sand beneath your feet at the beach from above. Best of luck to the new crowd up therehaving to listen to your stupid jokes—we know they'll get a good laugh the first time around.
The family would like to thank Dr. Harmston and Dr. Thota along with all the nurses and medical staff at Murray IHC. Dr. Towner, the one person Steve ever made an effort to be on time for, we are forever grateful for your guidance and support over the years. Thank you Staggy for being an anchor to all of us.
