Sharlyn (Spencer) Coon, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on November 26th, 2023, at her home in Sandy, Utah, surrounded by her devoted husband and loving children after bravely confronting cancer.
Born on March 7th, 1962, in Frankfurt, Germany, to Jay and Yvonne Spencer, Shar grew up in
Logan, Utah, alongside her three siblings Shirley Pryor, Kristen Kendell, and Jeffrey Spencer.
Her early years were marked by an incredible wisdom that was beyond her years as she helped
care for her siblings.
Shar attended Logan High School, where she distinguished herself as a Student Class Officer.
Her pursuit of knowledge continued at Utah State University, where she graduated with honors,
earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1985.
At Utah State University, Shar found more than academic success—she discovered her eternal
companion, J.L. Coon. Their union was one of unyielding love and mutual respect, spanning 40
beautiful years. Together, they embraced life's adventures, sharing a passion for travel, theater, and the camaraderie of football games at their beloved alma mater.
Her legacy lives on through her adoring family—her husband, J.L., and their three children:
Rachel (Manny) Cash, Jennifer (Isaiah) Shipp, and Andrew (Morgan) Coon—as well as her
cherished seven grandchildren. Shar was the epitome of a devoted mother, offering unwavering
love and unwavering support. Her presence was a constant source of encouragement at every
dance recital, football match, and soccer game. Her children and grandchildren were blessed to
bask in her affectionate embrace, feeling her support in every pursuit.
Shar's faith was an integral part of her life, as a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints. Shar served in many various church callings throughout her life. Her
current service as the ward Relief Society President is a testament to her deep-rooted
commitment to her faith community. Her gratitude for the opportunity to lead was matched only
by her humility, she felt as though her sisters of the ward provided more service to her than she
could have ever provided to them.
A service celebrating Shar's life will take place on Monday, December 4th, at 11 a.m. at the
Sandy Hillcrest Stake Building, 8485 South 1000 East, Sandy, Utah 84094. An open house from
9:30-10:30 am will be prior to the funeral services. A public viewing will precede the service on
Sunday, December 3rd, from 6-8 p.m. at the same location.
Sharlyn (Spencer) Coon's passing leaves a void felt deeply by all who had the privilege of
knowing her. Her enduring love, unwavering devotion, and quick-witted spirit will forever be
cherished and remembered by her family, friends, and the community she touched with her
kindness and grace.
