Our sweet mom and grandma passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Friday, the 17th of January 2025. She died from complications due to an acute viral infection. Marlene was born on October 11, 1950, to Barbara Brian Boehme and Ervin Frederick Boehme in Boise, Idaho. She was the fourth of seven children in her family. Her family moved to Granger, Utah, a year after she was born. Marlene had fond memories of her childhood living in her home in Granger. She lived in the same neighborhood as her future spouse, Bruce. They grew up going to mutual activities together. She loved her years in high school, being in the pep club and choir, and working at the Frost Top. She married and was sealed to her eternal companion, Bruce Evans Olsen, in the Salt Lake Temple on October 24, 1969.
The two of them raised six children together. Marlene always wanted to be a mother, and so having a big family came naturally. Marlene was able to stay home to raise her children but always made time to contribute to the household income. She spent many years running a preschool in her basement. She loved spending that time with the kids she taught. Beyond that, she delivered newspapers with her kids and cleaned buildings after hours. Later on, she worked outside the home in the dental field. She did all she could to help lighten the load for her family. She and Bruce were inseparable until the day he passed away on January 9, 2005. She was heartbroken and longed for the day to be reunited with her sweetheart.Marlene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She devoted her whole life to her faith and loved serving in many capacities over the years, such as serving in Young Womens and Primary, choir director, and temple worker, to name a few. She especially loved her time serving as a missionary at the Jordan River Temple distribution center. Marlene had a great love for her family. She has always been very close to her brothers and sisters, especially as they were all raising their kids together. There were annual summer trips to Bear Lake as well as many family gatherings over the years. Family was everything to her. When the time came, She was very excited to become a Grandma. Her later years were spent enjoying this season of life.
Her passing has left a huge hole in our hearts. One that we will never be able to fill. She is preceded in death by her son Christopher, husband Bruce, granddaughter Emmalee, parents Ervin and Barbara, her brothers Brian and Lynn, and sister LeeAnn. She leaves behind her children Brian (Raelynn) Olsen, Jennifer (James) Thomas, Craig (Tiffany) Olsen, Russell Olsen, and Heather (Andrew) Astin, as well as her siblings Laraine (Steven) Bytheway, Renée Boehme, Michelle Jones, Carl Jackson, Fred (Kristi) Boehme, and Carolee (Randy) Turner. Her pride and joy were her grandkids: Katelyn, Joshua, Kaden, Evan, Christopher, Kelsie, Jacob, Colton, Lucas, Daniel, and Callie. They will miss hugs and kisses from Grandma.
Her viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 22, from 6 to 8 PM. The funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 23, at 11 AM, with a viewing one hour before services at 10 AM. The viewing and services will both be at the LDS meetinghouse at 5176 W. Parr Drive, West Jordan, Utah. Interment at the Memorial Redwood Estates.
