Manfred Joseph Holzer, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 14, 2022.
He was born to Josef M. & Emilie T. Lang Holzer on December 31, 1936 in Munich, Germany. His family immigrated to the United States in 1954 and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fred started attending the University of Utah the following year, paying for his own school expenses, and graduated in 1960 with a BS in Civil Engineering, and at the same time received a Commission in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant.
He married Merry Joye Nelson in the Salt Lake Temple on May 10, 1965. Fred and Joye were blessed with 8 children, who were all born in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Utah .
During his working career, he started at Hill Airforce Base, where he was Chief of the Civil Engineering Design Unit. He then took a position as Base Civil Engineer at Rhein-Main Air Base in Frankfurt, Germany, where he moved the family and worked for three years. Upon returning home , he transferred his employment to the U.S. Weather Service, where he had charge of design and maintenance of all weather facilities in the western United States.
His church service began when he was called to be Second Counselor to the Sunday School Superintendent in Munich, Germany, at age 16. His father was the Branch President , with 425 members in the branch. Upon immigrating to Utah, he was called to serve as Deacon's Quorum Advisor. He has also served as a Seventies President, Stake Missionary (3), Scout Master, Young Men's President, Stake Mission President, High Counsellor, Bishop, and Counselor in Stake Presidency.
Fred and Joye have served three missions together. Two in Germany, (Frankfurt and Munich) and one local mission at the South Davis Community Hospital Branch.
Fred is survived by his wife, Joye, their 8 children: Nelson (Susan) Holzer, Heidi (Layne) Hill, Cameron (Kim) Holzer, Robyn (Brent) Eberhard, Angie Holzer, Kyle (Sally) Holzer, Justin (Jen) Holzer and Tyler (Jessica) Holzer, 38 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, with two on the way, and one sister Rosemarie (Neil) Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Herbert Karl.
Funeral Services will be Monday August 1, 2022 at 11:00am. There will be a viewing prior from 9:00 to 10:30am. All services will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1320 E 1975 S, Bountiful, UT 84010.
Interment will be at the Bountiful city cemetery. 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, UT 84010.
