Luana Lee Horne

Our wonderful mother, Luana Lee Horne (91) passed away on Friday October 27, 2023, surrounded by her family after a prolonged illness.

Luana was born in Brigham City, Utah on October 15, 1932, to Theron and Charlotte Lee. Luana graduated from Box Elder High School in 1950. She attended the University of Utah where she was involved in art and music. She then went to Utah State University to pursue a career in fashion illustration. There she met the love of her life, Harold Horne. They were married and sealed for time and eternity in the Logan LDS temple on September 9, 1953. Shortly after, he was drafted into the Army and stationed near Frankfurt Germany. During his 18-month deployment, they enjoyed touring Europe.

They raised 5 sons and 1 daughter in the same home Luana was raised, in Brigham City Utah. As a family they enjoyed camping, boating (especially in Lake Powell), and the great outdoors that Utah has to offer. They also enjoyed many trips to Mesa Arizona to visit her sister Bonnie Lee Thorpe. After their children were raised, Harold and Luana enjoyed traveling and cruises to many beautiful locations.

Luana was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings in her church.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, watching her TV shows, going to the movies, watercolor painting, drying flowers, gardening, and watching the Utah Jazz play. She also enjoyed attending her kids’ and grandchildren’s sports games, dance performances, and other events.

Luana and Harold were married for 40 years until Harold succumbed to Leukemia in August 1993. After becoming a widow, she became involved in community clubs. She was Mother of the Year for Brigham City Civic Improvement Club in 2015.

When her health started to decline, she moved to Legacy House in Bountiful where the staff took wonderful care of her, provided fun activities, and to be closer to her daughter.

Luana is survived by her children Steve and Saundra Horne (Washington, UT), Terry Horne (Carefree, AZ), Laurie and Fred Boulton (Bountiful, UT), Paul Horne (Graham, WA), Robbie and Maureen Horne (Lakeside, AZ), 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her sweetheart Harold, sister Bonnie Lee Thorpe, son Kevin, grandson Mashaun, granddaughter Ashley, and great-granddaughter Blayklee.

A viewing will be held November 3, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Val Verda 4^th Ward, 2633 S 50 W, Bountiful, UT. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning November 4, 2023, at Val Verda 4^th Ward, at 10:00 AM, preceded by a viewing from 9:00-9:45 AM. Burial will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.
