Jason Walker

When Jason was diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2020, he met the challenge the same way he’s dealt with most things in life - with humor and positivity. He constantly made jokes about his symptoms, side effects, and hair loss - always focused on helping others feel better about his situation. Cancer is a roller coaster of highs and lows, good news and bad, and he took it all in stride - always looking for and focusing on the good.

Jason was a natural leader and used his leadership skills on the basketball court (as a 27 year referee of high school and college basketball and soccer), in business (as a sales manager and director with Cellular One, Sprint and Cox Communications) and as a Bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (he liked to joke that he’s probably the only Bishop to serve over three different wards in two years - two in Arizona and one in Oklahoma). At the time of his passing, he was serving as Bishop of the Edmond Oklahoma 5th Ward.

Jason’s career path gave his family the opportunity to live in lots of places including SLC and Cedar City UT, Twin Falls ID, Sparks NV, Medford OR, Phoenix AZ, and Edmond OK. In each city, they enjoyed making life-long friends and exploring what the area had to offer.

Jason loved watching collegiate sports, traveling with his family, working in the yard and serving others. He also enjoyed a good nap and could fall asleep and stay asleep through most anything. Recently, he enjoyed “day dates” with his wife as she accompanied him to appointments with all of his “ologists.”

He was an amazing and attentive dad who gave great advice. He taught us how to find humor in any situation, how to love unconditionally and to never pay full price for anything. (Also, if it’s on sale you should definitely stock up!)

Jason’s legacy is in the many lives he touched for good. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and tried to be like Him as he showed love to all he came in contact with. He had the unique ability to be a friend to anyone and everyone he met.

Jason was born May 16, 1970 in Ogden, Utah. He was raised in Taylorsville, Utah where he excelled at soccer, hockey, and student government. He spent two years in Alabama and Mississippi as a missionary for the LDS church then returned home to continue his education at SLCC and, later, Grand Canyon University. He was sealed to his wife, Jill, in the St George LDS temple on June 19, 1992.

Jason is survived by his wife Jill (Tucker) and children Madison (Brendon) Williams, Erin, and Dallin as well as his mom, Patricia Walker and sister, Allison (Tim) Rice. Preceded in death by his father, James Ross Walker and nephew, Jordan Rice.

A celebration of Jason’s life will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 in Taylorsville UT. Interment will be at the Hurricane City Cemetery (because Jason never could pass up a great deal).
