On Friday November 24, 2023, we unexpectedly lost our dear Jim. Jim was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 10, 1955, to Lyle and Gail Grainger. He was the second child and the first boy. He attended Viewmont High School with the graduating class of 1973. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy from October 1975 with an honorable discharge in 1981. Serving his country honorably for six years.
Jim married the love of his life Stephanie Cude Grainger with her daughter Randi Jo. The two of them went on to extend their family with their daughter Kelly, their son Ben and their family was completed with their youngest son Nik. They lived in Millington Tennessee until they finally came back to Bountiful, Utah. Jim lost his sweetheart when she passed with cancer in October of 2000 after 24 years of marriage. Since her death Jim has never quite been the same.
Jim could be the life of the party when he got going. Everyone loved his sense of humor and boy could he EMBELISH. Jim was an extremely talented athlete; he was good at every sport. He was a fantastic pitcher and first baseman and was a fast runner. He was on the football team at Viewmont High when they took state with Coach Dangerfield. He ran one of the touchdowns in the winning state game! When he was in grade school, he won the state hopscotch tournament (and would never let us tell anyone). Jim also had a beautiful voice and participated in grade school programs. Jim was an incredible salesman he could charm the birds out of the trees. He was so charismatic and could make anyone smile.
Jim is survived by his children Randy Jo (Mark) Wheeler, Kelly (Ryan) Thompson, Ben Grainger, Nik
(Sarah) Grainger, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and his beloved dog Bear. His mother Suzanne Grainger, His brothers and sisters Julie (Robert) Hogge, Joe (Peggy) Grainger, Dave Grainger, Tish (Chris) Iund, Sheila Downs, Lisa (Pete) Peterson, and Michelle (Dave) Lewis. Along with many nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his mother Gail Grainger, his loving wife Stephanie Cude Grainger, his father Lyle Grainger and many other extended family members.
We will be having a celebration of life for Jim in January close to his birthday with details posted on the James Michael Grainger memorial page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61554234266565
