1950 Gwen 2023

Gwen Claire Knight Huffaker

October 16, 1950 — September 12, 2023

Gwen Claire Knight Huffaker passed away on September 12, 2023. She will be missed greatly by her daughter Erica Nadeau (Raphael) and three grandsons; Jadon (Olyvia), Zachary, and Gavin Nadeau. She is survived by a brother, Steven (Anne) and sister, Adele, and many nieces and nephews. Can’t forget her little dog Mo who misses her greatly.

Gwen was born October 16, 1950, in American Fork to George and Barbara Knight. She was the fifth of six children: Barbara Geniel, Carol Kay, Newell Ralph, Steven Wayne, and Adele. She grew up in Sugar House and has lived in Kearns, Rose Park, Fruit Heights, and Farmington.

She graduated from South High in 1970, attended beauty college and became a licensed cosmetologist. She has worked for Auerbach’s, Salt Lake School District lunch program, Church Office Building cafeteria, and retired from the Davis School District lunch program.

She was married to Hollis Elwin Huffaker in 1981 and they had one daughter, Erica, who she raised by herself after her husband passed away in 1983. She was a very loving and caring mother and did her best to support her daughter in anything she could. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was very good at it, putting together a delicious meal with very little ingredients. Rarely ever did she measure anything she would just eyeball it. She made delicious bread and various desserts that she loved to share with her neighbors.

She had a soft spot for animals and had many over the years. Whenever commercials for the ASPCA would come on she would say “that dog or cat needs me…I need to adopt it”.
She enjoyed sewing and made quite a bit of her daughter’s clothing and Halloween costumes as she was growing up. Crocheting was another hobby she enjoyed and made a blanket for all her family and friends. In the last three years she started painting ceramics at the Central Davis Senior Center and enjoyed the time spent with the group laughing, talking, and learning.

She loved to shop even if it was just window shopping. Especially during her favorite holiday Christmas. She loved to give and to see people open presents. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandsons, swimming with Jadon, pretending she knew how to play video games with Gavin, and especially painting ceramics with Zac. She loved watching them at their music recitals and soccer games.

Even though she will be missed greatly and there is pain to be felt; there is also joy in knowing she is with her family on the other side. She will be joining; her husband, Hollis; her parents, Barbara and George; her brother Ralph; and her sisters, Geniel and Carol; and many aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday September 18, 2023, at the Provo City Cemetery.
