Gay Sharp Hatch

Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025 and was returned to the waiting arms of her husband Delray. 

Gay was born April 29, 1936 in Long Beach California to Eugene Dalton and Dale Braithwaite Sharp. She was the 2nd of 6 children. She grew up in Long Beach and graduated from Polytechnic High School. She then attended and graduated from Brigham Young University. After graduation from BYU she spent time working and playing in Hawaii. She was married to Delray Olsen Hatch on December 21, 1962 in the Manti Utah LDS Temple. They moved to Taylorsville where they raised their 4 children. She was an elementary school teacher, teaching mainly Kindergarten for over 20 years. 

Gay was an avid reader. She had a talent for many craft arts such as ceramics, tole painting, quilting, sewing and crocheting. She and Delray enjoyed traveling and golfing together in their later years. After Delray passed away in 2001, she kept traveling and golfing with her very good friends. She was a good friend to many. She loved card games and was famous in the family for usually being the winner. She spent many, many hours playing games with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching BYU athletics- especially football. She was a very generous and giving person. 

She is survived by her four children: Steven (Amie), Lora (Robert) Smith, Alan (Lori), Lynette (Shaun) Smith; her 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and her brother Jon Sharp. 

Funeral Services will be held Saturday February 15 th at 11:30 am at the Taylorsville 8 th Ward Chapel, 1495 W Tamarack Road (4665 S). A viewing will be held prior from 10:30 - 11:30 am for friends and family. Interment will be in the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery. Under the direction of Independent Funeral Services.
