Our wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, David Owen McAllister, passed away on August 15, 2024, just in time to celebrate his mother’s 100th birthday.
David was the first of 10 children born to Maxine Burton and Warren Bennion McAllister on September 13, 1946. He was a great example of an older brother to his sisters and brother. He also adored his grandmothers and they reciprocated that love tenfold.
After his mission to the West Germany mission in 1965 to 1967, he returned home and enrolled in college at the University of Utah. He was an excellent student, majoring in history, which was his passion throughout his life. He loved to read and at one time if you were to enter his bedroom, you would see four walls of big shelves, full of books from every genre of history.
At 6’4”, he was known as a gentle giant. He was always willing to help wherever he was needed. Frequently, you would find him assisting his Gram, laying down sod and putting in a wall of plants or helping his sister dig a stop and waste and installing sprinklers or helping in the care of the family yard on Wilson Avenue. He loved playing volleyball or basketball or running a race with friends or family down the street. Recently, he enjoyed watching athletes perform in the summer Olympics.
When David married, he not only fell in love with Bobbi (Scott), he fell in love with her three children, Kip, Juli and Tim. Together, they added two more children- Jake and Mandy-to the family.
David was an active member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints and never wavered in his testimony of his Redeemer. He served in the Salt Lake Temple until his release due to physical limitations.
We will all miss him terribly!
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Diane M Bishop and Daniel W McAllister. He is survived by his children Kip/Kristen, Juli/Maury, Tim, Jake and Mandy/Jared. 15 grandchildren, Cameron, Brenner, Andrew, Dalin, Brighton, Natasha, Kirsten, Weston, Jaxon, Anika, Lauren, Eva, Siera, Taeya and Cohen. Survived by his sisters: Susan/Jorge, Wendy, Randy, Lorie, Joni/Rex, Ann/John, Jami/Ernie, Julie/Craig and Lynne/Tony. And many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23 at 11:00 AM at the LDS Chapel on 2930 S. and 2000 E. Salt Lake City, UT 84109. Friends and family may visit Thursday night from 6:30 to 8:30 PM and Friday at 9:30 to 10:45 AM.
