Allene Wood Whitesides, a gorgeous, loving, kind, vivacious spirit departed from this world February 23, 2017. Her infectious humor affected all who knew and loved her; she knew how to make people smile. She was born May 29, 1926 in Ogden Utah the 2nd of 6 daughters to Melvin G and LaVora Wood. She married her high school sweetheart, Reed B. Whitesides 74 years ago on January 20, 1943. Allene traveled the world with Reed while he served in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 23 years. They served a 2 year LDS mission to Nauvoo, IL, during the building, open house, and dedication of the beautiful Nauvoo Temple. Allene was a missionary wherever she went and shared the gospel freely with everyone she met.  Allene served in many church callings, including Stake and Ward Relief Society president and Young Women’s president. She was an early morning seminary teacher for 6 years. Allene established a school for children with disabilities in Layton Utah. She was also a substitute teacher for Davis County Schools for many years. She was also a dental assistant. They raised their family of 7 children in Layton and Ogden, Utah then moved from Ogden to Burke Virginia where Reed worked at the Pentagon in Washington DC and Allene worked at the Better Business Bureau. They lived in Virginia for 27 years. During their time in Virginia, both Reed and Allene served as temple workers in the Washington DC temple.
Allene enjoyed the association of many wonderful people including family, friends, neighbors, and work associates. She had a strong testimony of Heavenly Father, our savior Jesus Christ, and His atoning sacrifice; matched by her undying love for her eternal companion.
Allene is survived by her siblings Mary Ellen Wood Smoot and Ruth Ann Wood Christensen, her husband, her seven children, Tamera (James Oneil) Miner, Judy (Edward, deceased) Bennett, Barry Reed (Roxanne, deceased) Whitesides, Cindy Ann Ballou, Roland (Christine) Whitesides, Wendi (Greg) Keilwert, Jason (Melanie) Whitesides; 21 grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren.
