On March 26, 2022, Allen Leroy Meek Sr. passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was 74 years old.
Allen is survived by his wife: Kathy Meek of Salt Lake City, Utah; their children: Shauna Meek, Allen Leroy Meek Jr. (Tricia Meek), John Meek, Jay Meek (Devena Meek), Andrew Meek, Stephen Meek (Chelsie Meek), Cyndle Bass (Robert Bass), Tracy Moss (Tavie Moss), Jeremy Moss (Heather Moss), and Corey Moss (Becky Moss); and siblings: Leo Smith (Michelle Smith), Melanie Townley (Monte Townley), Dennis Smith (Raelyn Smith), Dave Meek; as well as his 26 grandchildren and his 5 great-grandchildren. Allen was proceeded in death by his parents Virginia Smith (Jay Smith) and Alvin Meek; and his siblings; Larry Meek, Rose Mary Meek, and Terry Smith.
Allen was born on April 6, 1947 in Saratoga, Wyoming. He was in the first graduating class of Wasatch High School in Heber, Utah in the year 1965. Later in life he went on to attend at The University of Utah where he earned a bachelor's degree in sociology.
Allen married Belinda Eaton on June 10, 1970 in the Manti, Utah Temple. They welcomed Shauna Meek in 1971, Allen Meek Jr. in 1973, John Meek in 1974, Jay Meek in 1975, Andrew Meek in 1977, Stephen Meek in 1981, and Cyndle Meek in 1985. In 1987 his marriage to Belinda ended. On July 20, 1988 he married Kathy Moss in Jordan River, Utah Temple. They combined their family to include Kathy’s children Tracy, Jeremy, and Corey.
Allen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a firm believer of God and his son Jesus Christ. He spent much of his life loving and serving the Lord. He was called on a mission to serve in the North Western States Mission at the age of 19. He later served in the Jordan River Temple as well as the Salt Lake City Temple as an ordinance worker. Those were some of the best years of his life. He also loved the outdoors. He would go camping, hiking, and fishing every chance he got. The mountains were like home to him. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing the books he read with others. He performed as a clown named Meeko for years and brought joy to so many through his magic tricks and balloon animals. Traveling was also a well loved past time of his. He went on many road trips, cruises, and family trips. Allen loved his children and grandchildren to the very end.
A viewing for Allen Meek Sr. is scheduled for March 31, 2022 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM as well as his memorial service at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 704 South 500 East Salt Lake City, Utah. It will be immediately followed by a graveside burial ceremony at Elysian Gardens Cemetery 1075 East 4580 South Salt Lake City, Utah.
